Sponsor a Course
WOW sponsored courses provide your local community with a fantastic opportunity to acquire life-saving skills at little or no cost. Now, that’s WOW, as saving a life is a pretty awesome gift
A gift that empowers individuals to develop their CPR knowledge and abilities for free, ultimately benefiting everyone around them. Don't miss out on this chance to learn and grow together!
Why are community awareness courses essential?
Throughout my career and personal life I have spoken to countless people about CPR and life saving skills, and the responses are generally the same. People tell me how important they think CPR and lifesaving skills are, how everyone should be taught them and how they have previously done first aid courses (often adding "although it was years ago").
However, despite the general consensus research by St Johns Ambulance in August 2024 found that
" six in 10 (59%) people do not know or are unsure how to respond to someone with a serious bleed, such as one caused by stabbing.
Only four in 10 (43%) people know how to give CPR to someone in cardiac arrest and less than a third (32%) would know how to use a defibrillator. Only 44% of people know how to give basic back blows to someone choking.
More than a quarter surveyed (26%) said they had never learned any first aid and nearly half (49%) said they would feel panicked if they came across a health emergency due to their lack of training. "
WOW's community-based awareness courses are designed to eliminate many of the obstacles which prevent individuals from accessing opportunities to develop life saving skills. They help to ensure those who want to learn CPR skills can do so, without the increased financial and time commitments associated with certificated, HSE compliant courses.
Why should I get involved?
Our community-based first aid and CPR awareness sessions focus on equipping individuals with essential life-saving skills. Our 2-hour sessions are conveniently located in local venues, removing the common barriers of cost and time that often keep individuals from receiving training. By sponsoring a course, you can help further eliminate financial obstacles, allowing WOW community-based basic life support sessions to be offered at little or no cost to participants. Together we can empower our community with the skills to save lives
By increasing bystander CPR rates and addressing inequalities in access to training, we significantly improve the outcomes for individuals experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. This proactive approach not only benefits the casualty, but also supports their families and friends, fostering a stronger, more resilient community. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn this vital life-saving skill.
Community engagement projects play a vital role in strengthening local connections and promoting inclusivity. By utilising local venues, we not only support their upkeep but also create spaces for diverse events that foster a sense of belonging among residents. These help combat social isolation, encourage community interaction, and provide valuable opportunities for individuals to develop skills that enhance their employability, self-esteem, and confidence. Ultimately, investing in community engagement enriches the lives of individuals and our community as a whole.
