Why Choose Way Out West Training

Hi, I’m Tracy & I have a passion for reducing inequalities in health through education & training. This has driven my career choices for over 25 years initially working as a paediatric nurse and then as a qualified teacher, with secondary and adult education experience.
Combining my skills & experience
I am now combining my skills & experience to work towards reducing health inequality through accessible first aid education and training in Pembrokeshire. In addition to regulated courses to meet HSE requirements for individuals and businesses, my First Aid for All strategy aims to provide first aid training to local communities at a time and location to meet their needs. By offering a in-house first aid training sessions you can learn these life saving skills from the same trainer, using the same equipment, but at a significantly reduced cost, compared to regulated courses.
Increased Pressures on the NHS
Increased pressures on the NHS are resulting in longer response times & poorer access to services across the UK. However, in addition this beautiful county has its hazards, the risks associated with walking the coast path, high risk leisure activities, remote rural communities, agriculture and changes to healthcare services. For this reason I strongly believe that first aid knowledge & skills should be accessible to everyone and am keen to facilitate this.
Crowd Funding and Sponsorships
Through crowd funding I am hoping to collect sponsorship to enable me to offer FREE training to groups & local communities in the Pembrokeshire area. To find out how to sponsor one of our courses click here.
Sustainability in First Aid Training
Being a life saver doesn’t have to cost the earth.
First aid training, like many practical teaching environments, can carry an environmental footprint. From expired equipment and discarded manuals to the travel required for multi-day courses, the cumulative impact can be significant. We’re committed to delivering high-quality, life-saving training in a way that is kinder to the planet.

Reducing Waste from Training Materials
Traditional first aid training often relies heavily on printed manuals, paper registration forms, disposable training items and hard-copy certificates—many of which are used once and thrown away. To tackle this, we have transitioned to:
-
E-registration and digital learner records
-
E-manuals and e-certificates
-
Online assessments, helping dramatically reduce paper consumption
When equipment inevitably expires, such as bandages reaching their sterile date, waste can quickly accumulate. Our sustainability practices ensure that materials are reused in a meaningful way rather than simply discarded.
Bandage Swap for Existing Customers
Our Bandage Swap initiative allows returning customers to exchange out-of-date bandages from their workplace first aid kits for brand-new replacements. The outdated items are then repurposed for training use, where sterility is not required—extending their lifecycle and reducing waste.
Smarter First Aid Kit Purchasing
We encourage organisations to refill and refresh their first aid kits sustainably by offering:
-
Refill packs to replace only what’s needed
-
Individual replacement items instead of buying whole new kits
-
Eco-aware first aid kits that reduce reliance on single-use plastics
Lowering Our Carbon Footprint
We actively promote local training provision wherever possible, reducing the travel impact for both trainers and learners. For courses that traditionally require several consecutive days in the classroom, we offer blended learning options—allowing theory to be completed online and face-to-face time to be minimised. This not only supports accessibility but also significantly cuts travel-related carbon emissions.
In addition, we work with Carbon Neutral Britain, offsetting 14 tonnes of CO₂ each year through tree-planting projects and environmental initiatives. This ensures that the unavoidable emissions linked to training delivery are balanced with meaningful, measurable action.
By embedding sustainability into our practices, we make it easier for individuals and organisations to gain life-saving skills without leaving a heavy environmental footprint. Being a life saver truly doesn’t have to cost the earth.
